Tata Motors, India has serious plans to roll out their CNG version of Tata Nano in India, most probably by month of March in 2013. The concept was featured at the Auto Expo, New Delhi held in January this year. If our reliable sources are to be believed, this variant will be strolling around the streets very soon as well. As per an official announcement from the company, they are currently working on this new Tata Nano CNG concept.

The Nano CNG essentially is same as the original Tata Nano, being powered by the 624cc MPFI petrol unit. In some places, minor changes have been introduced to keep the variant tuned in with CNG or Petrol Bi-Fuel configuration. Its suspension settings are changed a little bit to bear the extra weight of 110 kg because CNG variant weighs 710 kg as against Nano that weighed just about 600 kg.  If Tata Motors maintains the similar concept as was displayed at Auto Expo, the production version of Tata Nano CNG will sport a 15-litre petrol tank along with the CNG cylinder of about 35-litre capacity. The mileage of this variant will also reach up to 35kmpl. The bi-fuel petrol-CNG fuel system that will come in the CNG kit will get sequential gas injections and will also be calibrated with EMS. As such, it will smartly switch from petrol-to-CNG mode and vice-versa. In case of some fault or CNG leakage, this system will also be responsible to cut off CNG supply.

Tata Motors have claimed that this CNG kit will be intelligently fit inside and not occupy much space so that there also remains sufficient luggage space in the car. There is just one more point worth a mention and it is that the Tata Nano CNG will be costlier than Tata Nano petrol by 15 to 20 per cent.
