Audi A8 4.2L TDI Diesel launched in India

03 August, 2012 : German premium car Mogul, Audi has taken the covers off its most powerful and expensive luxury saloon—Audi A8 4.2L TDI. The launch ceremony was held at the commercial capital, Mumbai where the latest entrant into A8 lineup was labeled at a whopping over INR 1 Crore. The high end Audi A8 4.2L TDI diesel saloon will be placed above the existing Audi A8L 3L TDi Quattro. In India, this New epitome of luxury will be seen fighting for space in the elite segment that already has players like Mercedes Benz CLS Class and Volkswagen Phaeton.

The successor of Audi V8 in the four door luxury sedan market, Audi A8 is marketed and manufactured by German auto tycoon Audi since 1994. Audi A8L the fourth generation of the vehicle was launched in India in 2012 within months of its launch in the global market. The vehicle is spawned on its parent company Volkswagen’s MLB platform, the same platform which is also likely to be used on the A6 and the new Bentley Continental.

Audi brought in the vehicle in India market much early to amplify its position and to sizzle up the competition in the super luxury saloon segment against the BMW 7 Series and the Mercedes-Benz S class. Audi A8L as the new version is called comes with a lot more characteristics line and a bit more sophisticated design than its predecessor, and the company has made sure that the silhouette of the new Audi is enriched in terms of charisma and breathtaking looks that one expects in a luxury saloon segment.

This flagship luxury sedan from Audi boasts more spacious, longer overall ergonomics which are marked at 5,267mm in length, 2,992 mm wheelbase and 1,949mm in width. And one can easily realize from these figures that this liberated 13-centimetre increase in wheelbase is as much appreciated by the Indian audience as the Chinese because of the luxurious amount of legroom space it offers in the rear seating area. Audi A8L has been made available in the Indian market in four guises and both petrol and diesel fuel options. Audi A8 entire line-up features the ‘Quattro - the all wheel drive’ technology.

When it comes to the exteriors Audi A8L has a touch of chemistry going on between surfaces with a lot of Audi’s trademark elements visible upfront like the single-frame radiator grille, the tornado line that runs along the side of the car just below the window sill along with the signature style LED headlights. Again a lot of chrome styling has come into play into the exteriors and cabin area as the Indian buyers are biased towards it. To know about the cabin area, one has to slip inside to feel the plush luxury and comfort which are hard to tag in words. Audi A8L definitely oozes out more class and luxury touch than its predecessor with the high quality leather, real wood veneer, super spacious cabin, hand-stitched leather cover on the steering wheel rim with the central console holding the freshly developed MMI operating and multimedia system.

New Audi A8L was first offered with the 4.2-litre FSI petrol engine with the 3-litre TDI diesel engine following it hot on heels. With the new electronically controlled drivetrain, Audi’s both fuel engines come loaded with 8-speed triptronic automatic transmission which has been teamed with Audi’s proprietary Quattro permanent all-wheel drive. Being a luxury vehicle Audi A8L is not just enriched in creature comforts and styling, Audi has incorporated the best in class and updated modernized safety features like type pressure monitoring system, anti-theft wheel bolts, head airbag system with side air bags both in front and rear area and Audi pre sense basic system.
