Hyundai i20 Rivals
Hyundai i20 has been here for long time and has been heartthrob of many in the country. Its growing sales numbers has got the backing of continuous amendments and innovations that has made it a segment leader. Recently the hatchback went through major modifications inside-out. Nevertheless, since long there have been rivals chasing the success mantra of this exclusive large size hatch. But the two worth mentioning cars that aptly fancy their chances against Hyundai i20 are Skoda Fabia and Fiat Punto.
The appearance part of all three is totally matchless and depends upon the individual taste. Although on the dimension piece Skoda Fabia is slightly longer than the two and on the width aspect Hyundai i20 wins among the rest. Being large hatchbacks the inside of trio is spacious to hold the 5 occupants with their heavy luggage as there is sufficient boot space. Coming to the comfort and convenience element Fabia and i20 takes the cake leaving behind Italian beauty that feels short on the headroom for rear occupants.
Talking about the features on the offing inside one would say that the base model Punto gets more value for money features, against the two, that have their top end trims fully loaded with advanced gadgetry. Moreover, choice between the two, among features, will be Hyundai i20 as it has got many segment first features like electric sunroof, daytime running LEDs and rain sensing wipers etc. The safety features are more in i20 in comparison to the two. The driving and handling is best with Fiat Punto, especially the diesel mill, albeit i20 and Fabia play a draw here as both perform near about equal. At high speeds, the trio remains planted on the road offering great stability. Mileage comes best with Hyundai i20, followed by Skoda Fabian and Fiat Punto. On the whole, if you talk about space Fabia is good, talk about refinement Punto attracts your mind, whereas if you consider these factors as a whole than Hyundai i20 is a complete package for you that gets you every of your desire.

The overall ride can be said comfortable but not that fun as compared to closest rival in the segment Honda Jazz.
Hyundai is always known for softer suspensions and i20 is no difference hence it at times lacks in handling on higher speeds. However, these facts can be useful for a moto-racer enthusiast who wants to drive on the maximum speed, which requires apt braking, and not for a city or daily commuter. The NVH (Noise, Vibration and Harshness) levels are good all around even in the entry level Hyundai i20 petrol variants.

Hyundai i20 Road Test Report
The New Hyundai i-Gen i20 has now got its kappa petrol engine incorporated with fabulous Variable Valve Timing (VVT), earlier the same technology has empowered the Hyundai i10’s engine. To begin with, the idle state is much calm than the predecessor. As soon as you insert the key the smooth refinement will be sensed the very moment. Here you can experience the more refined and properly tuned kappa engine, which drives well and outpours more power against previous version. The maximum power it generates is of 84 PS that is just above 4PS of older i20, while torque remains the same. The throttle response is not that apt and reflects some wavering initially at the start, but goes well at speeds.
This engine lacks a bit on performance and pickup, here the competitor engines like Maruti’s K12 and Honda’s Ivtec 1.2 seem ahead of it, the power train starts to play when it reaches above 5000 rpm, and now it becomes matchless. In the 1st and 2nd gear the Hyundai i20 gives out remarkable pickup and this makes the city drives totally hassle free, especially in stop-go traffic conditions. But when in longer routes it feels dragging and the speed mounts up a bit slow comparatively (in 1st and 2nd gears). The low speed rides, which were a concern with older version has enhanced a lot, now you can take-on the crowded or narrow lanes of the city straightforwardly. Overall, Hyundai i20 drive was nearly excellent, but thrice the rear suspension made some bang noises as it passed through some big-sized potholes, it was felt when we were at low speeds, the newness of
the spring might have been the culprit for this, which might get softer a bit later.
There was a big concern raised by Hyundai i20 owners previously about the rattling of steering wheel on bumpy tracks that has been addressed in this edition, as Hyundai takes care genuinely of customer’s feedback. Just to test it, we drove many times over potholes but the steering was intact all the time. The steering has ESP facility, which is above average, when it comes to handling, but can be improved. The superior body rolls allow cutting corner with ease, but not as trouble-free as Maruti Swift or Fiat Punto, although larger wheel base and low posture of Hyundai come to the rescue quite intelligently. The interesting aspect that we were eagerly looking turned tedious, when Hyundai i20 acceleration from 0-100 kph took more than 16 seconds, which was expected in pretty less time as older one catches it at less than 15.50 seconds. However there were reasons to cheer as it comprehensively beat/defeated its earlier top speed of 153 kmph with a new achievement in the form of nearly 165 kmph. For Hyundai i20 highways are full of delightful as it has got maximum peak power delivery on it.
Hyundai i20 Conclusion
The refined version of full size Hyundai hatchback i-Gen i20 has again added more on the overflowing features of the car. The currently added features discussed in the overall section are just phenomenal considering that they are incorporated in a hatch. From the feature point, one cannot claim that it’s a hatch; the obvious words will be ‘it’s a sedan’. It accomplishes all the characteristics of a premium vehicle from features to comfort and lively engine to remarkable fuel efficiency. The New i-Gen though has ‘some’ cues flowing on the body that might make you feel ‘Fluidic Philosophy’, but they are not entirely done like the Hyundai Verna and recently launched New Hyundai Sonata.
There is vital focus given to the safety aspects with 6 airbags, ABS and EBD along with all disc brake integrated wheels for optimum control of the Hyundai i20. Here, a vital part is fuel efficiency too, as it delivers a more than satisfactory with 21.9 kmpl and 18.5 kmpl with diesel and petrol power-trains receptively. Furthermore, recently unveiled Hyundai i-Gen i20 (in UK) with its advanced 1.1L diesel common rail engine is said to be returning a beyond belief mileage figures of 37 kmpl. As far as the price as concerned, the premium car buyer has no worries for the price, but still the new price tag across 12 variants applauds the Korean carmaker’s efforts for keeping it fairly 1down.
