Mahindra Quanto Review by Expert
It was year 2009, when India-based SUV giant Mahindra & Mahindra launched its inaugural urban Multi Utility Vehicle (MUV) in the form of Mahindra Xylo. Since its debut it has been counted as best sellers from the company and is rated as one of the best under Rs 10 Lakh MUV in India. Now after three years of immense triumph, M&M has launched compact version of large Xylo christened as ‘Mahindra Quanto’ with hopes to recreate the magic again. Prior to the name ‘Quanto’ it was widely called as Mahindra Mini Xylo. Quanto is a short of actual word ‘Quantum’ meaning quantity i.e. more space, more fun.
The USP for this new Mahindra kid is its under 4-meter length; with which’ it bags the title of being India’s first less than 4-meter SUV. The Mahindra Quanto is based on the famous ingenious platform well-known for its robustness and sturdiness in the form of Mahindra’s commercial vehicles and Xylo itself and same strength vigor is transmitted in the smallest ever
SUV Mahindra Quanto. The size is such ‘apt’ that it will deflect the sales of every segment ranging from hatchback to entry level sedans.

The overall outer structure of Mahindra Quanto looks compact yet classy, whilst its large-looking dimensions never endow you with a feel of being inferior against other large SUVs in segment. The exterior frontage that comprise of bold head lamps, signature front grille and bumper looks like the existing face-lifted Mahindra Xylo. At the same time the sides that carry sporty roof line are very well tuned with blacked pillars, alongside the solid 6-spoke alloys bestow it a sporty stance. The rear of
Mahindra Quanto is pretty interesting with mounted spare wheel in an attractive wheel cover at the tail gate and distinctively designed tail lights that are fitted at a greater height just next to rear wind-screen.
The Mahindra Quanto interior has got great space and is filled with some real class leading features. The 7-seater Mahindra Quanto, which comes with arrangement of 2+3+2 seats, will surely offer decent comfort to occupants. The last row has jump seats with folding option which creates extra luggage space making your ride very relaxed. The dashboard comes with dual tone granite theme that looks fresh and clean. Furthermore, there are numerous matchless features of Mahindra Quanto that makes it a perfect all rounder. And it comprises adjustable driver’s seat, driver and passenger’s armrest, foldable snack trays at rear seats as seen in an aircraft, modern drivers digital assistance system (DDAS) and 2DIN audio player that plays CD/Radio/FM besides AUX-in and USB connectivity support. Moreover there are some convenient stowage spaces like 5-bottle holders on floor console and under seat retractable storage.
In addition there are proper safety features offered in Mahindra Quanto, some remarkable ones are ABS with EBD, reverse parking assist/sensors and dual airbags. Under the bonnet, a newly developed 1.5L, 3-cylinder diesel engine rests that boast capability to smoke out maximum power output of 100bhp and peak torque of 240Nm.
Mahindra Quanto Rivals

The newly found compact utility segment is gradually getting crowded, it all started with the launch of Premier Rio SUV, followed by Maruti Ertiga MPV alongside Renault Duster SUV and new addition is mini SUV Mahindra Quanto. The Mahindra presentation, being a 7-seater is seen locking horns with Maruti sensation Ertiga that has taken the MPV segment to next levels because of its spaciousness. Maruti Ertiga has hit the showrooms so has Quanto and that too with extremely aggressive price-tag, which ascertain a blood-shed competition ahead. The looks of Ertiga carry a cute bubbly hatchback-sort of image, while the toned down version of imposing New Mahindra Xylo bestows sturdiness and ready-to-go attitude. Although the bonnet and roof line is pretty aerodynamic with Maruti Ertiga, while with Mahindra Quanto apart from being aerodynamic it has cab-forward design, classy looking roof rails and spare wheel mounted tail that completes as sporty scream. The interior of both are spacious and hold the decent room for 7 occupants. The quality of material used in Ertiga is good, while good along with durable is of Mahindra Quanto. Some exciting and breathtaking features are a part of Mahindra sub 4-meter SUV while the critics and owners have already applauded Ertiga’s. On the performance front, Mahindra Quanto is not restricted to urban conditions but will go that extra mile with its advanced 1.5L diesel engine. The
Mahindra Quanto mileage part is very vital, it’s not better than Ertiga, but acceptable considering the sports utility performance.

Mahindra Quanto Interiors and Features
The
Mahindra Quanto interiors carry some huge space inside the cabin, compared to any under 4 meter car, it is moderately bigger. The feel inside is contemporary besides integration of some worthy up market features that enhance its lavishness. Being an SUV-maker Mahindra has always been generous in providing ‘more than satisfactory’ space in its vehicles, hence Mahindra Quanto continues with this tradition. The Mahindra compact SUV is a 7-seater with seating arrangement of 2+3+2. The cabin is reasonably wide to ensure even room for all seven occupants. For the last two passengers there are two side facing occasional seats that can be folded for a huge boot space of about 690-litres. The front has a dual tone sleek granite theme dashboard with many storage spaces alongside properly placed central console that has many controls for convenience. The instrument cluster has clear viewing of speedometer and other functions alongside a sleek looking Digital Drive Assist System (DDAS) borrowed from Xylo. The driver’s seat is positioned higher and is adjustable with armrest to provide better all-round visibility and ease, especially while driving in city conditions.

The exciting elements at the central console house an exquisite entertainment system with 2DIN audio player that plays CD/MP3/Radio/WMA and supports aux-in/USB. Mahindra Quanto Exterior and Features

The smallest SUV from Mahindra arsenal, Quanto, has the same customary bold lines for which it is famed. The Mahindra Quanto sees the dawn of new ‘masculine’ face among the relatively cute looking large hatches or compact MPVs in the segment. The
Mahindra Quanto exterior dimensions look larger than compact rivals, due to its classy roofline and bulky stance, though in reality are shorter. The outer surface is such that it looks pretty compact while moving, but large when stationed. The front part carries imposing elegance, as observed in big brother New Mahindra Xylo and Mahindra XUV 500, besides possessing signature Mahindra grille. The clear headlamps are similar to that of Xylo but compact in shape with chrome insertion for premium touch creating an ideal visual delight for onlookers. The bumper appears firm with circular fog lamps, while the bonnet has visible smooth cues flowing towards windscreen that provides Mahindra Quanto an energetic posture. The side profiles are expected to come with turn indicator mounted ORVMs, sporty roof rail and attractive 6-spoke alloy wheels that will be enough to confer this tiny SUV a real muscle attitude against all the odds. The side profile gets blackened pillars and side body moldings with

chrome strips, whilst the broad 15-inch alloy wheels makes side view more appealing. With all this, hunky looking Mahindra MPV Quanto is out to arrest the attention of young buyers and newly married couples in the country.
The rear of Mahindra Quanto is more interesting. The engineers at Mahindra didn’t want Quanto to be called as just a ‘carbon-copy version’ of bigger Xylo alongside they also wanted it hold that sporty charisma, hence they did something distinct. As a result, now the rear tail gate is seen with mounted spare wheel with stylish cover and tail lamps positioned at a decent height compared to standard. The rear bumpers have multi reflectors and there is high mounted stop lamp for safety. Overall the
exteriors of Mahindra Quanto are a perfect design amalgamation of Mahindra XUV500 and Mahindra Xylo.
Mahindra Quanto Safety Features

In the recent times Mahindra has become very conscious about safety aspect in its cars and live examples as far as modern safety features are concerned can be Mahindra Verito, Xylo, XUV 500. Same sought of concrete protection arrives in Mahindra Quanto too that makes it one of the safest mini-vehicles in the compact segment. The
safety features of Mahindra Quanto comprise of dual air bags for driver and front passenger and Antilock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD). Moreover, there are some advanced features like seat belts for all occupants and driver’s belt with reminder function, advanced immobilizer, Child safety locks on middle and rear door. Some other worth mentioning protection gears are intelli-park reverse assist, digital engine immobilizer and rear washer and wipe system. On the whole, the
Mahindra Quanto safety features never let you down in providing best possible protection gears for all passengers.
Mahindra Quanto Driving and Handling

When it comes to compact MPV handling, you always wish to have a car-like drivability and maneuverability. And recently Maruti Ertiga has conceived a valuable benchmark in terms of ride quality and hence same is anticipated by Mahindra Quanto too. Being a compact city MPV the engine will definitely be more inclined towards peppiness, which will prove heaven for urban commuters in jam packed traffic conditions of the city. The rock-solid suspension; as it has always been in Mahindra vehicles, with greater undulation soaking competences will provide a bump-free ride to the occupants. With its size under 4 meter,
Mahindra Quanto will be great to steer and maneuver through narrow city lanes. Moreover with powerful Mhawk engine it will possess high amount of excitement on the highways backed by sufficient drag ability.
Mahindra Quanto Accessories

As Mahindra Quanto hasn’t hit the showrooms, it would be hard to imagine the accessories that will be on the offer. But still some regular garnishing, which are seen on most of the compact vehicles can be mentioned. The
Mahindra Quanto accessories on the exteriors is expected to include front and rear mud flaps to protect the vehicle from mud/ water splash, good quality car cover, modern graphic designs, aluminium side step for easy egress and ingress and tail lamp garnish along with stylish roof top ski-rack. The interior accessories are expected to comprise of floor mats, leather seat covers, funky steering wheel covers, extra speakers and amplifiers and touch screen navigation system.
Mahindra Quanto Road Test
The launch of Mahindra Quanto mini SUV has provided the necessary boost to the compact segment in the country, which was originally started by Premier Rio compact SUV. After coming across the sporty looks, apt pricing and promising specifications let’s explore the smallest Mahindra vehicle from behind the wheels.
First things first the driver’s seating position is just amazing with elevated stance that provides a commanding view to the driver with large windscreen glass area; so the confidence starts to built-up as soon as you capture the throne. Tested in city as well as highway conditions it provides you with a reasonable value. In city drives it produced decent grunt, but the on paper performance was not reflecting as much, however with the assistance of twin turbo chargers it was able to drag the 1640 kilogram weight with some ease, here also the ladder on frame chassis helped it to exert a pull. The clutch seemed light and manual gearbox was acceptable, considering Mahindra Quanto as SUV, but not that smooth as seen hatchbacks. City drives were lively due to light steering and with turning radius of mere 5.4 meters it was effortless when moving in and out of narrow city lanes.
The NVH (noise, vibration and harshness) were acceptable considering a diesel vehicle with big on power attitude, but at times road noise did sneaks into the cabin. You can’t ignore the turbo-lag present in Mahindra Quanto compact SUV although it gets vanished soon after the needle touches 1600 rpm. The brakes perform fine to halt the heavy-weight of Quanto. However brake pedal seems hard, don’t know was it with one specific car Mahindra Quanto C8 which we drove or common on all. Quanto was firm on road side undulations and absorbed the hiccups well; moreover, the suspension was satisfactory, while body roll was sensed while cornering. At high speeds on the highways it was good but not the best, though tolerable sighting that it’s a mini SUV. The city mileage is amazing and more than satisfactory for a vehicle of this size. Some of the highly regarded points for compact SUV Mahindra Quanto were its cabin space in the first two rows, high seating posture, versatility in seating layout and feature packed interior equipment list along with powerful yet frugal diesel motor.
Mahindra Quanto Conclusion

The
launch of Mahindra Quanto in the country is a very precise, accurate or say risk-free move from the Mahindra & Mahindra, which will certainly take the company on cloud nine. The company didn’t go for an all-in-all hatchback or a small car or compact SUV, rather they chose an intermediate way in the form of a compact and versatile MPV. Here Mahindra Quanto will a play comprehensively role of a large sporty hatch along with a resourceful mini utility vehicle. Earlier, Mahindra has never come up with such a compact vehicle, hence their strategy will be to sell volumes and make it their first mass segment vehicle, letting the people of India taste Mahindra’s ‘different’ vehicle that gives you happiness of a family car as well as acts as a purposeful car. However, this will only be possible if Mahindra Quanto dons an aggressive price tag that is lower than that of arch rival Maruti Ertiga. The three aspects that will play a significant role in the Quanto accomplishment will be superior
Mahindra Quanto mileage, aggressive price and potent marketing across urban India; as the vehicle is targeted towards city commuters. If the latest-n-hot offering from Mahindra checks all these right boxes, here comes another blockbuster from prominent utility vehicle maker.
