Safety and Features in Mitsubishi Outlander
As far as the safety is concerned, the designers have worked a lot on this fact. The car is given a more advanced Reinforced Impact Safety Evolution (RISE) body design which is based on the concept of regression and structural integrity. Crush zones progressively crumple to absorb impact energy, and key structural areas, direct energy away from the cabin, itself solidly reinforced against deformation. The result is improved collision safety for all occupants regardless of the impact direction. Outlander protects more than just its occupants. Hood and bumper are designed to lessen injury to pedestrians and the front end is engineered to crumple, reducing impact energy transmitted to other vehicle in an accident. The interior surface of roof and pillars feature impact energy – absorbing rib structures to lessen head injuries in a collision.
Dual – stage SRS front airbags for the driver and front passenger are standard. Deployment force based on impact magnitude helps protect occupants against airbag injury. Front seats are equipped with pre – tensioners (double pre – tensioners for driver) that reel in to secure the occupants in the initial moments of a collision, and force limiters that gently release the occupant to reduce the risk of injury. Also the presence of security alarm is an excellent safety measure. The security alarm uses an ultra sonic sensor to trigger of siren and hazard lamps in the event of door and hood, which were locked by remote control, being forced open. The buzzer sounds twice and the hazard lamps flash twice when the doors are unlocked and the buzzer sounds once and the hazard lamps flash once when the doors are locked. The Inclination Sensor also raises the alarm in the event of unauthorized movement of vehicle when it was locked. Another standard anti – theft measure is the Engine Immobilizer. This device prevents the engine from starting over if an unauthorized ignition key is used.
The keyless Operating System enables locking or unlocking of the doors and the tailgate, as well as turning on or off of the ignition without ever taking the key out of your pocket or handbag. The door entry system becomes effective at approximately 70cm from the front doors on both sides and tailgate.
The car even features the ABS with EBD. The Multi – mode Anti – lock Braking System allows you to maneuver around objects under heavy braking conditions. Outlander’s intelligent 4 – channel, 4 – sensor braking system works in conjunction with the drive mode to monitor different wheel speeds and activate brakes to individual wheels when required to deliver superior controls. The Electronic Brake-force Distribution technology reduces stopping distances by detecting passengers or heavy loads and automatically increases rear – braking force.
The High Intensity Discharge Headlamps with Adaptive Front Lightning System offers bright illumination for night time driving and provides increased illumination of corners when the car is turning. To accompany these and provide better safety the car has collapsible steering column, power windows with anti pitch system, child protection rear door locks, emergency triangle and first aid kit which can be used at the time of emergency.
Mitsubishi Outlander Driving and Handling
More than a technology, All Wheel Control is our guiding philosophy. Instead of only the front or rear wheels, all four wheels are controlled independently to ensure superior handling in all driving conditions. Through years of experience and dominance in the world off – road rallies such as the Dakar, Mitsubishi has made drive control top priority throughout design, construction and testing, resulting in continually improving technologies. World’s toughest motor sports event goes into the creation of Mitsubishi vehicles, providing drivers with consummate controls.
It has 4 – wheel traction control which provides rigid body with aluminums roof panel, 4 – wheel independent suspensions and large tyres and wide tracks which provide the excellent stability and the car can move forward anywhere. Available 16”, 5 spoke alloy wheels and wide tracks enhance driving stability and handling performance. Next is the 4 – wheel power control which assures electronically controlled 4WD. Using one centrally located dial, the system permits switching between 3 driver modes depending upon driving condition or environment. Easily accessible on the center console, the drive – mode selector dial can quickly change the drive mode of the Outlander from 2WD to 4WD or Lock Mode for mastering even demanding off – road or weather conditions. The 2WD Mode enables economical performance approaching that of a normal front – engine front – wheel – drive car. The 4WD Auto Mode delivers added traction whenever weather turns nasty and roads turn rough, dynamically splitting torque between front and rear wheels for increased control from off – road exploring to high – speed cruises. Lastly, the 4WD Lock Mode that delivers 1.5 times more torque to the rear wheels than 4WD Auto Mode, increasing driving stability on slippery snow, rough trails and steep hills.
And lastly is the 4 – wheel slip control which makes perfect use of ABS with EBD and independent suspensions to give a best drive ever. During hard braking & on slippery roads, the Anti – lock Braking System (ABS) helps prevent the wheel lock and maintain steering control. Regardless of passenger number, luggage load, or road conditions, Electronic Brake – force Distribution evenly distributes braking force to the rear wheels adding to overall safety. Outlander’s front MacPherson – struts and rear multi – link suspensions offer confident handling on city streets and country trails. Ample wheel travel and remarkable ground clearance clear most obstacles, and all – wheel independence combined with the rigid body structure delivers luxury – class comfort and a smooth, stable ride.
For a perfect drive the brake work even matters. Outlander is equipped with front 16 – inch ventilated – disc and rear 16 – inch drum – in – disc brakes. The addition of a brake booster ensures the overall system delivers positive, linear, fade – resistant braking in all driving conditions.
