India's flagship automobile show witnessed maximum crowd today as more than 1.2 lakh auto enthusiasts made their way to the venue. According to Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers 1.21 lakh people visited the Auto Expo today, the fifth day of the week-long event. German luxury car makers -- Mercedes Benz, Audi and BMW -- attracted the maximum crowds during the day. The display hall housing the manufactures had to be barricaded in order to manage the crowds.
Security personnel had hard time controlling the large number of visitors as people waited for their turn to get inside the exhibition areas in ques as long as 500 meters. Even the company representatives manning the display areas had to take various measures to manage the flow of the crowds at their respective pavilions. Unlike yesterday, when the crowds had started to swell from morning hours itself, Today the crowds started to build up post afternoon. Auto makers conducted live shows, dances and interactive sessions to attract visitors at their respective stalls.
Halls hosting the stalls of Maruti Suzuki BSE 1.78 %, Hyundai Motor, Ford, Renault, Tata Motors BSE 0.40 % and Jaguar Land Rover also attracted huge crowds. Two-wheeler makers, including Harley Davidson and British brand Triumph, had a tough time controlling the crowds as people thronged their pavilions. The show had attracted more than 1,10,000 visitors on on Saturday. The expo opened to the general public on Friday afternoon. From Monday, the first half of the day would be for business visitors only. Space constraints forced the organisers to split the 12th edition of the auto expo, which runs until February 11. The motor show is being held at Greater Noida and the auto components exhibition is at Pragati Maidan in Delhi.
