Bajaj RE 60 small car like city taxi to debut sales in Sri Lanka
The Bajaj RE60 will be first sold in Sri Lanka and then it will be sold in its country of origin - India. Notably, the Bajaj RE60 four wheeler that was mistaken for Bajaj small car was unveiled just before the 2012 Auto Expo on January 4. Recently, Rajiv Bajaj, Managing Director Bajaj Auto has reportedly told media that the two-wheeler company Bajaj will be exporting the RE60 first in Sri Lanka and then it will be available for India launch. It is worth mentioning that Bajaj has a strong dealership network in Sri Lanka and it will be utilizing the set there to market the small car like passenger vehicle. Bajaj sells over 10,000 three-wheelers in there every month. The Bajaj RE 60 price in India is expected to be Rs 1.3 lakh and is expected to target the three wheeler drivers who wish to upgrade themselves with an all weather public passenger car.

The small car like four wheeler by Bajaj unveiled on January 4 will create a new segment “city taxi” in India and all other markets where it is proposed to be exported from India. In India, Bajaj expects to pose the RE60 as an excellent replacement for over five million Bajaj three wheeler vehicles. The RE60 is also expected to be the new option for the public passenger segment entry level buyers and it will be giving protection against all weather to both the driver and the passengers and it also returns a high mileage.
When the Bajaj RE60 was unveiled there were reports that it is the first small car from the Bajaj-Nissan-Renault joint venture but later it was known that the Bajaj RE60 lack similarity with a small car. It was compared and re-compared to popular small cars in India such as Tata Nano, Maruti 800, Maruti Alto but in all the comparison, the RE60 felt short of features akin to a small car. Basically, the RE60 is a four seater (1+3) car with a petrol powered DTSi engine and has an expected mileage of around 35 kmpl.
