In May 2011, the Renault India’s Managing Director, Mare Nassif said that the company would get involved in the low cost car project if the developed vehicle would match the its own “Quality of Development”. The Bajaj RE60 concept came under the consideration in 2007 and the Carlos Ghosn chief of the Renault-Nissan had confirmed its contribution for the ultra low cost car with Bajaj in 2009.
According to the agreement, Bajaj would be the responsible associate for the development and manufacturing of the car, but that would be sold under the brand name of Renault-Nissan. At the time of the unveiling of the Bajaj RE60, Bajaj Auto has preferred to call it a ‘four-wheeler instead the ‘car’.
A report said that the Bajaj RE60 will come fitted with a 200cc rear engine producing maximum20hp power. Mileage will be pretty impressive with 35kmpl. The buyers will be offered to choose between two fuel options: petrol and CNG/LPG.
