Chevrolet to launch Enjoy based LCV

The Chevrolet Enjoy launch is round the corner, the Maruti Ertiga and Nissan Evalia are already in. This has resulted in some of the best MPVs in India but there is more to come out of these. Where Maruti is planning an SUV based on the Ertiga, Nissan is planning a commercial avatar based on Evalia; Chevrolet is also thinking of launching Enjoy based light commercial vehicle and pick up trucks just as Mahindra has Mahindra Bolero and Mahindra Genio pickup trucks. The light commercial vehicle segment is quite lucrative in India and it has attracted the attention of many car makers. Prominent players in this segment include Tata, Mahindra and Ashok Leyland.

The reason why Chevrolet mulls over LCV based on Enjoy is that all other car makers are in the process of pitching in the commercial variants of their MPVs. Once the Enjoy settles in the MPV segment, a LCV will be launched and it will result in Chevrolet’s foray in the commercial segment. Until now, the car maker is only in personal vehicle segment and its presence in the new segment is expected to get it some huge numbers which will further establish it. In this endeavor, Chevrolet’s Chinese partner SAIC will be of utmost help to the car maker as it has an array of commercial vehicles and it will be easier for Chevrolet to rebadged it and launch it anywhere in the world.

The only change that the car maker has to bring to the pick up trucks and LCVs is to put a diesel engine under the hood and ship it to India where the segment is growing at a pace of 20 percent per year and still there are only a handful of offerings including Tata Ace, Mahindra Maxximo and others.
