Fiat 1.3 L multijet engine unites five rival car brands in India
Maruti Ertiga, one of the truest of the MPV offering by the car maker is about to launch next month. Ertiga launch will mark an addition to the series of cars powered by one engine which is the Fiat 1.3 L multijet engine. Expected to be priced around Rs 6.5 lakh to Rs 9 lakh, the Ertiga MPV is believed to be creating much commotion in the MPV segment in India. Segment leaders such as Toyota Innova and Mahindra Xylo besides others could be thinking possibilities of an entry level offering to counter Ertiga.

Chevrolet has already decided to pitch in Chevrolet Enjoy while Toyota and Mahindra are yet to find one. But it is sure that the 1.3 L engine that is to be used in Ertiga and Enjoy MPVs is a symbol of uniting even rival brands as it is used across segments from hatchbacks to MPVs, SUVs. As per a survey, the same engine powers as high as a dozen cars belonging to five brands in India. Prominent user of this engine is Maruti which is currently using it in Maruti Ritz, Maruti Swift, Maruti Swift DZire and Maruti SX4 and will be using it in Ertiga as well.

There are two things that have helped the Fiat engine becoming popular among even rival brands and these are growing demand for diesel cars and Fiat engine being one of the most trusted engines available currently. Besides its versatility also favors its use in a wide variety of cars. The new Premier Rio SUV that is coming soon will also be powered by the 1.3 L multijet engine. In addition to this, Fiat India has a decently good capacity to supply such engines to car makers and recently it had entered into an alliance with Maruti India to supply 1 lakh units of these engines to the car maker annually.
