Home charging system for BMW i3 and i8 showcased at CES 2015
German luxurious car maker BMW has showcased home charging system for its i3 and i8 saloon sedans during ongoing CES, company will start the sale of this system from 2016. Prior to this car maker had showcased the same system in conceptual format codenamed as Design Works USA solar carport concept which is fully automatic system developed BMW’s Wallbox pro system facilitating the owners to charge through solar and grid charging system.
Although the car is charged through solar system but in case if it is not charged through solar power it uses the power grid which is endorsed to be cost effective method of charging. The complete package of solar charging system leaves an impression of a car parked under shade having an area of 25-square- meters. Once charged properly through solar system it is capable to offer the driver of about 32,000 kms.
It is reported that in coming months the system would be accompanied with energy home storage system which is developed by making use of repurposed batteries of BMW I. The system allows the storage of power by making use of solar energy. In India the solar charging system is already in practice and is offered by domestic car maker Mahindra and Mahindra for its electronic car Reva, and interestingly the technology is successful in India.
