The Indo-Japanese venture Maruti Suzuki India must have never dreamt that one fine day a premium carmaker like Honda will needle them and lock horns in their very-own playground i.e. mass segment. Heard about Honda Amaze sedan? Yes. This is the second time Honda takes a dig at passenger car supremo, as it triggers a war against volume-seller Maruti Swift Dzire sedan with the launch of Honda Amaze sedan in petrol and diesel avatars early 2013.
It all happened last year, when bubbly Honda Brio hatch was launched to torment Maruti Swift hatchback. And it was taken with both hands by ‘loyal’ petrol-car freaks in the country, as it proffered exceptional features inside-out, and needless to say, ultra-refined at a mind-boggling price. All this, and lot more is expected out of Honda Amaze sedan when it hits production floors late this year. Although not much of details are out by now, but still there are some worthy ones. So let’s have a quick assessment on how Maruti Swift Dzire will tackle the chaos thrown by Honda Amaze; as it’s all-set for grand launch in Thailand.
On dimensions front both carry length of less than 4-meter, while Amaze is expected to see greater width that supplies more room inside. The front bears same attractiveness, but with aggression and imposing styling cues at the bonnet line it matches up with the sporty looking Dzire. The rear of Amaze is comparatively well-designed and bigger too, not as discomfited as Dzire’s. The wheelbase is elongated by 60mm than that of current Brio and with larger rear doors it offers uncomplicated ingress-egress.
The insides are spacious and very comfortable in comparison to durable ones of Swift Dzire. Brio’s enticing dash, instrument cluster and central console need no improvement and hence are kept intact. There are several storage spaces which comprise of coin, cup and bottle holders at floor console, albeit gadgetry remains more or less identical. Moreover, with central fuel tunnel being very low, the 3 occupants won’t be seen rubbing their shoulders due to inadequate space. The leg-room and knee-room is better than Maruti Dzire. The legacy of apposite safety will continue with Honda Amaze and is expected to supply protection gears as standard right from base variant, another jolt to Maruti Dzire.
The under hood refinement, has got no words to express, while its 1.5-litre, twin camshaft, 16V i-DTEC diesel powertrain is expected to give out maximum power of around 80-85PS. This advanced motor is said to give out whopping mileage of 25-26 kmpl, though company is not ready to spill beans on this as of now. The ride and handling, which is currently tested only on smooth surface, is ideal and plantation on road is such that it will be superior to Maruti Dzire in city conditions too.
