Hyundai to Re-launch Made in India Version of Santro
Hyundai Santro, the name which brought revolution in hatchback segment of Indian car market, eliminating the dominance of Zen hatchback by country’s leading car maker Maruti Suzuki India Limited is once again back in limelight. According to recent industry reports Hyundai Motors India Limited the Indian alliance of Korean car maker Hyundai Motors is speculating to re-launch the one time best hatchback Santro in Indian and global car market sometimes during the beginning of 2018. It is also reported that this time Santro’s target will be Kwid hatchback from French car maker Renault, which within the short span of its launch has emerged as one of highly preferred hatchbacks in country, affecting the sales of Eon from Korean car maker.
The proposed version of Santro is designed in India at company’s research and development centre located in Hydearbad and for this Korean car maker had invested Rs. 1000 crore. According to sources of company the newly developed version of Santro developed in India will sold in global car market along with India. The sources of company revealed that new Santro will be targeted mainly on International markets preferring for small cars.
Launch of Santro had helped the Korean manufacturer to strengthen its roots strongly in Indian car market and established it as the second largest car manufacturer in India, after Maruti Suzuki India Limited. However, after being as one of the best selling hatchback in country for more than a decade Santro Xing was pulled from market in 2014. It is believed that launch of refreshed Santro will help the car maker in meeting its target of selling out 1 million units in Indian car market by 2020. According to sales statistics company has sold out 484,324 units by the end of March 31, 2016 in India.
