Mahindra India has high hopes with the Korean SUV maker and subsidiary Ssangyong. The Korean car maker is soon to launch two of its SUVs –Ssangyong Korando and Ssangyong Rexton in India. Besides this the SUV maker plans to make India as hub for the production of Ssangyong cars. Notably, Mahindra bought Ssangyong last year for $473 million when the later was struggling for survival, a report suggests. The launch of Korando SUV in 2011 is said to have saved the Korean car maker help recover and now it has aggressive plans for India.

Currently, the Korean car maker has registered a growth of 30 percent with the launch of Korando and expects to take the overall sales to to 1.2 lakh units by this year end. It also hopes to sell 3 lakh units by 2015. Apart from launch of new cars, the car maker will also be recovering its field rate which is 85 percent currently and will be taken to 95 percent in this year. The Korando SUV from Ssangyong is an upcoming SUV in India and is expected to be priced around Rs 15 lakh. At this price, the SUV will be fighting head on with the existing SUVs such as Chevrolet Captiva, Ford Endeavour and others.

With plans to start export of Korando and Rexton SUVs from India that car maker is currently exporting two third of its production. As per reports, both Mahindra and Ssangyong will be developing a new platform on which new cars will be developed both for India and Korea besides other markets. This will help both the car makers to cut costs strategically and both expect that they will be able to produce much affordably priced cars in the near future. A report suggests that work on a new platform XIV concept has already begun and it will soon be in a final shape.
