Mahindra, Ford, Honda car sales improve while Hyundai, Toyota, GM suffer in December
December 2012 was a month that has pricked the bubble of good times that inflated during the festive season. Following it barring few, the month of December has been ultimately poor in terms of sales. However, sales did go gaga for Mahindra, Ford India and Honda cars in India. This could be following the excellent response to Mahindra Quanto and XUV 500, new Ford Figo and Honda Brio respectively. Meanwhile, sales were not so good for Hyundai, Toyota and others due to meek sales during the last month. Though December is generally a month that is seen as the darkest month of the year for car makers as this month witnesses steep decline in sales even after mammoth sales promotion by car makers.
But Mahindra, Honda and Ford India have proved that even the meekest of the months can be hectic. With XUV 500, Quanto sales on the high, Mahindra is heading for an upgradation of its position in the country and worldwide as well. Meanwhile, the latest addition of new Ford Figo has done a good job for the American car maker and sales did pick up in the last month. Meanwhile, Honda added reasonable growth for itself following the sales of Honda Brio.
It was a tough time for Hyundai that had to bear a decline of around 10 percent in domestic sales. Meanwhile, Toyota Etios
and Etios Liva fever also seems to be over and their grip over the market seems to loosen. The slump in sales is to the tune of 24.31 percent and this is a huge one for the car maker that was expecting steady sales after the October rise. Amazingly, even after huge success of Chevrolet Sail UVA
, General Motors too has posted a decrease in the sales to the extent of over 21 percent. Thus the overall health of the industry is mixed as some car makers are still struggling to get out of the slumber while some are enjoying the feast.
