Mahindra Quanto launch in mid-Sep
The French SUV Renault Duster may have given a strong fight to Mahindra Scorpio and has eaten some of its share in India, but Mahindra seems to be all set to retaliate with the Mahindra Quanto. Based on the Mahindra Xylo MPV, the Quanto is a compact SUV and it will launch in next month before the festive buying sets in. The new Mahindra SUV is expected to be the most affordable in the segment offering as it will be under four meter in length and it will have a small engine to qualify for the tax concessions. Thus the Mahindra Quanto price is expected to be around Rs 5.15 lakh.
The Quanto is a car that Mahindra has made taking good things from all its cars and putting them into downsized form into this SUV. First, the Quanto is the downsized under four meter avatar of the Mahindra Xylo MPV that has been the most successful and its recent facelift has been exceptionally well taken. Next, the Quanto has under the hood engine derived from the 2.2 mHawk engine that is on duty in Mahindra Scorpio and Mahindra XUV 500. The Quanto will have the 1.5 L downsized avatar of the mHawk engine. Notably, despite of being downsized Mahindra has tried to keep the power output all the same. As per the reports, the new SUV engine will be of 100 bhp and it will be a three pot one rather than the four pot one in Scorpio or the XUV 5OO.
As far as the transmission is concerned the Quanto will have the same five speed manual gearbox doing duty. Another major feature of the Quanto by Mahindra is that it will be a seven seater car and will have comfortable elbow, shoulder and leg room for the front, second row and third row passengers as well. However, it is to be seen how Mahindra attains this miracle as being under 4 meter there will be very little space for the third row. The third row seats will be facing each other. It is expected that the tale that Duster started will be really told by Quanto and the Ford Ecosport will be adding some chapters to it while a new story will begin after the Maruti XA Alpha is launched.
