Indian electric car market is on the verge of a major revolution, this time it is destined to be brought by Indian SUV giant Mahindra. Preparations for it began over a year ago with Mahindra buying a major stake in Reva Electric. The Indian electric car Reva launched in 2001 could not see inspiring sales and had invisible numbers on the sales chart but it is now all set for a resurrection, this time in the form of Mahindra Reva NXR. It is projected that in the light of the sky rocketing fuel prices as well as sleepy city traffic conditions and shrinking parking spaces, the new electric car avatar by Mahindra scheduled to launch next year will be able to see a sunny day. However, Mahindra Reva NXR price will be the deciding factor.

Mahindra clarified its intentions of bringing in a small car to India when it brought Reva. However, the industry could not see any such output besides several claims of bringing in the most efficient electric powered car. As per recent revelations, the NXR has almost got rid of all that had earlier pulled down its sales. It can now go 160 km on a full charge besides a modest (for electric cars) speed of 100 kmph against the top speed of 80kmph earlier. In addition to it, the Reva NXR will be a boon to those who are fed up of spending a larger chunk of their income on petrol. As per the prediction about the running costs, new Reva will be nine times cheaper than any petrol car.

Reva that is said to have only 4000 units running on roads presently is expected to fetch good sales with the new avatar in. Furthermore, Mahindra has also planned big for it and is setting a unit near Bangalore that will be able to produce 30,000 units annually besides expanding its outlets to 100 in coming years. Those who are enthusiastic about the NXR can get a glimpse of the electric car at Mahindra’s pavilion at the Indian Auto Expo in New Delhi.
