Home grown auto major Mahindra and Mahindra (M&M) has taken a vow of not stopping at any level; just go on creating new horizons. The company has made an announcement which was the most awaited one, that M&M is about to introduce its initial Ssangyong car in India named, Mahindra Rexton.

It is estimated that in the opening phase the utility king will launch Mahindra Rexton in two versions with auto and manual transmissions. The Rexton is a powerfully built, mammoth sized SUV with an all-wheel-drive system and it is powered by Mercedes Benz M Class power-train; which is the highlight of this product. The monster is expected to hammer on the Indian doors next year in 2012.

In the beginning the full size off-roader will be brought to India as a completely knock down unit (CKD) from its home, located in Korea and will be assembled at M&M’s Chakan plant in Pune. The Rexton will be capable to seat seven adults as it carries capacious interior along with bold looks at the exterior. It is expected that it will hold a turbo charged diesel power-train with a massive displacement of around 2696cc.

Another SUV Korando C may debut after the unveiling of the Mahindra Rexton; both the SUV’s will fall under the premium luxury segment. Ssangyong Motors is a South Korean automaker which was acquired by M&M this year.

M&M this year had firstly launched the facelift utility vehicle Bolero that is the bestseller in its segment, followed by the anticipated world SUV (Sports Utility Vehicle) XUV500 that saw a successful launch and an overwhelming sales response.

The future projects of the firm involve the launch of Mahindra Reva NXR; an electric powered vehicle.
