Mahindra Scorpio, claimed to be India’s first indigenously built SUV will complete a decade long innings on June 20. It has the most prominent rival in the avatar of Mitsubishi Pajero and Mahindra decided to price it between Rs 5 lakh to Rs 7 lakh at the launch. But today the Indian SUV market is abuzz with lots of offerings and lot are to come. In these ten years, Scorpio has sold well and it is maintaining sales even today when over 109 Scorpios are sold daily with over 4 lakh units sold till today in these years. Currently, the Indian SUV Scorpio price is Rs 7.43 lakh and is available in various options 2WD, 4WD, BSIII, BSIV, Manual, Automatic transmission options apart from other trim options.

So what is that made Scorpio a hit. Is it the styling, being an Indian SUV or its appeal? Experts believe that it had a mixed effect. However, being an Indian SUV and launch price between Rs 5 lakh to Rs 7 lakh also helped the SUV to pick up on sales front. Overall, the SUV has been a success story for Mahindra and it is also currently rejoicing it. However new SUVs in India such as Mahindra XUV 500, Force One SUV have dented the sales a bit and the upcoming Tata Safari Storme is believed to take the sheen out of Scorpio SUV as it will be its closest rival.

Another important factor that could be worrying Scorpio makers is the uprising in the compact SUV segment. This segment with entrants such as Renault Duster, Ford EcoSport and Maruti XA Alpha will be highly affecting overall SUV sales in the country as these will be priced somewhere around the price of Scorpio and it is believed that though being smaller in size and capacity than it, the new compact SUVs will be offering some gizmos that will make them worth picks in the segment.
