The Indian SUV maker will be launching its cars in Russia in the next two years and hopes to stun the nation with its robust offerings. The foray will be through the completely knocked down unit route and not through the completely built up unit route and this suggests that Mahindra has quite big plans for Russia. Already, Mahindra’s subsidiary Ssangyong has CKD plant in Russia and there it produces on Ssangyong car. The plant is under utilized and after a capacity expansion, it can be used to accommodate more models. This will not only ensure Mahindra’s presence in major parts of the world but it will also add to the growth in the popularity of Mahindra cars.

Notably, Mahindra’s US launch has been a distant dream for the time being and thus in order to be an international car maker, Mahindra must venture in other parts of the globe and Russia is the obvious destination for the car makers after Australia and other nearby locations. Which models will be taken to Russia and which Mahindra car will be produced there is uncertain as of now but it is expected that the XUV 500 and Mahindra Scorpio will be taken to the new destination. It is Mahindra’s concentration on export destinations that its exports grew by 37 percent in the April to June quarter this year. At present, Mahindra is selling its cars in half a dozen nations besides India.
