Mahindra to launch small cars soon, new factory at AP
It is still a wonder why Indian SUV maker Mahindra has not ventured itself into the small car segment. It was believed that the car maker will be launching five cars – Mahindra Quanto, Mahindra Verito CS, Mahindra Rexton, Mahindra E20 (Reva NXR) and one other which could be a small car. Though there is no such buzz of it as of yet but it is reportedly known that the car maker could establish a factory for producing Mahindra small cars in Andhra Pradesh. Notably, the car maker already has a Mahindra Bolero pickup truck manufacturing plant at Zaheerabad in AP. The car maker is also soon to come up with a tractor plant there.

It is believed that if Mahindra enters the small car segment, it will be super hit. The reason behind this almost true assumption is the trust and brand value. Mahindra Quanto and Mahindra XUV 500 have proved themselves and the Mahindra Scorpio and Bolero has been the heartthrob of Indians since decades. If Mahindra comes up with a small car it will straightaway a rival of the recent success Maruti Alto 800 as well as the Alto K10. It is also a probability that Mahindra could think of doing the reverse of what Maruti did to Maruti Swift. It may come up with a hatchback based on Mahindra Verito. Just as it came with an under four meter SUV Quanto based on Mahindra Xylo.

But behind these guesses there is a lot of effort that Mahindra will be doing. It will be importing small car technology that can withstand the likes of Maruti, Hyundai and Tata small cars. In addition to this experts are also of the opinion that the Mahindra has little experience in small capacity cars and petrol engines. But it is believed that Mahindra could experiment with the 3 cylinder Quanto diesel engine.
