Mahindra to launch three new UVs in three years

Mahindra will be launching two to three new UVs by 2015. The Indian SUV maker is developing two new platforms and will be launching the cars either under its own banner or under the banner of its subsidiary Ssangyong. It could be possible that Mahindra XUV 500 global platform could be used in developing the new compact Utility Vehicles. Meanwhile, the company is all set to launch the Mahindra Quanto on the 20th of this month. The Quanto is a compact SUV and it will be taking the Renault Duster and Premier Rio seriously. Notably, the compact SUV market is hot and hotter and pitching in new cars in this segment is projected to be a profitable affair.

With the development in progress of the new platform, it is yet again proved that Mahindra remains a major SUV maker. No other car maker including Tata could match to the number of SUV offerings by this car maker. Also, after the decadal success of the Mahindra Scorpio has been more than exceptional. The recent launch of the XUV 5OO in Australia has also enthused the car maker and there as well, the Cheetah inspired SUV has bagged much response. Mahindra has designed the XUV 5OO on a global platform and it is developing the LHD version of the same to market it in the LHD markets.

As per the sources information, the new UVs will have the 1.6 L diesel engine option and it will be more powerful than the 1.5 L engine on Duster or the 1L engine on the upcoming Ford Ecosport. To be developed on the new platform code named X100, the three UVs will hit the road in the next three years and India launch besides other countries is what is on the cards. Meanwhile, Mahindra has already slated the Mahindra Ssangyong Rexton launch this Diwali besides the Ssangyong Korando launch soon after that. Where Rexton price is expected to remain around Rs 20 lakh, the Korando will be priced around Rs 14 lakh. These two Ssangyong SUVs in India will ensure Mahindra’s presence in the above Rs 14 lakh segment.
