Mahindra to sale 1500 Ssangyong cars in South Africa

Last year, Mahindra and Mahindra acquired about 70% of the stake in Ssangyong, which is actually a well-known Korean car manufacturer. Now Mahindra and Mahindra is all set to market Ssangyong products in South Africa via MSA (Mahindra South Africa).

Mahindra South Africa began promoting the Ssangyong vehicles in SA by launching Actyon SRV (Sports Recreational vehicle) and Korando SUV. Both these models are basically upgraded models of cars, which are already present in the South African car market from Ssangyong. The new versions of Actyon and Korando are much more enhanced and have been priced competitively.

Both M&M and Ssangyong focused on manufacturing vehicles for the utility segment. Therefore, joining hands has proved to be a very beneficial move. As per the chief executive of M&M’s international business, Mr. Ruzbeh Irani, the firms are currently recognizing synergies with regard of the distribution channels in various global car markets. This will further be used to amplify the international presence of both car brands.

If figures are discussed, Mahindra South Africa is eyeing on 1500 sales for Ssangyong units in the first year and with a constant growth likely to persist in next 5 years would lead to the launch of more new car models. According to the chief executive of MSA, Mr. Ashok Thakur, the company is planning to roll out 4 brand new and enhanced Ssangyong cars in South Africa by the mid of next year. Therefore, one could expect to see a lot of action from MSA in South Africa in coming years.
