Mahindra to set up new SUV manufacturing facility in MP

The Mahindra XUV 500 is rocking and the recently launched under four meter SUV Mahindra Quanto has already bagged more than expected bookings. So what all this indicates. It is high time for Mahindra to plan an expansion, a serious one. This is what Mahindra is said to be mulling these days, a brand new manufacturing unit in Madhya Pradesh. As per the sources information, Mahindra has set a target to invest Rs 3000 crore in the new plant and if all goes well it will be the largest capacity plant. The new plant will not only boost production of SUVs but will also ease pressure on the Chakan plant. Also this way, the car maker will be able to increase production manifold and thus the domestic as well as rising international demand for Mahindra SUVs can be easily met.

In addition to this Mahindra will be able to separate itself from the heavy taxes that the state government has imposed on such manufacturing plants in Maharashtra. Notably, Mahindra was on a hunt for land and it was earlier rumored that it will be heading to Gujarat just as Tata and GM did but Mahindra zeroed in MP. It may be because the car maker already has a two wheeler manufacturing plant there and it knows the land as well as it has quite decent presence in the state. In addition to this, the state government has also welcomed Mahindra to set up its unit there and sources tell that the new facility will be spread to a 500 acre land. Though Mahindra has not spoken a word about the new development but the industry is abuzz with such reports.

Also, Mahindra has obvious reasons to go for an expansion, specially when its cars are doing incredibly well and becoming the heartthrob of many homes in India. It is said that the Quanto has been so successful that people have cancelled the Maruti Ertiga bookings and have booked this new Mahindra instead.
