Indian utility major Mahindra & Mahindra has unveiled Mahindra Ssangyong Korando E, compact premium Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) by its Korean subsidiary at the 2012 Auto Expo in New Delhi. This is the second SUV by Ssangyong via Mahindra in India after Ssangyong Rexton, which is expected to be launched this year. The vehicle at display was the electric version of Korando E, although India will see the launch of a regular petrol or diesel by late this year. The powerful compact vehicle will challenge the likes of then launched Ford EcoSport and existing Tata Safari Storme. The Ssangyong Korando E is expected to be priced between Rs 13-15 Lakhs.

Mahindra Ssangyong Korando also called as "Korea Can Do" can be considered to be a mini avatar if juxtaposed with Mahindra Ssangyong Rexton though it has distinctly dissimilar proportions than its elder. The Mahindra Ssangyong Korando will be powered by a 2.0L turbo diesel engine that outputs 175 bhp and can take to 100 kmph in less than 10 seconds. Anti-lock braking system (ABS), Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD) and parking assistance systems are part of the standard model. The Mahindra Ssangyong Korando that is being brought to India is the fourth generation of the vehicle that was first launched in 1983. It has six-airbags as standard and it can have a two wheel drive or four wheel drive version.

The exterior styling and specially the upright stance of the Mahindra Ssangyong Korando were the centre of attraction for the car enthusiasts and media at the Mahindra pavilion at the Auto Expo. Besides the Mahindra Ssangyong Korando uncovering, Mahindra has also unveiled Rexton. Apart from this Mahindra also remained the newsmaker at the Auto Expo following the showcasing of Mahindra Reva NXR electric vehicle that is expected to redefine daily commuting solutions.
