The future cars will be either Hybrids or electric cars as the hydrocarbon based fuels will not last long. Sensing this, Mahindra seems to have set on a journey to advance this future technology and adept it in its cars. In such an endeavor, the car maker will be launching Mahindra Verito Electric in the next two years. Notably, the Verito has recently picked up a new garb and its Compact Sedan version is awaited this Diwali and now the reports of Electric variant enhances the dynamic nature Mahindra wishes to put into the Verito. Meanwhile, Mahindra is also all set to launch the Mahindra Reva NXR which will be the first and the only electric car in India.

Though the future of electric cars is bright but it seems to be bleak in the country that highly depends on petrol and diesel as the primary fuel for cars. Even Hybrids are seldom found in India. Only Toyota Prius is truly hybrid car while Mahindra offers micro hybrid on some of its cars such as Mahindra Scorpio, Mahindra Bolero and others. It seems that the Verito Electric is going to change the face of the Indian car industry and will set in a perfect example that electric cars too are viable options for daily commutation and are the cheapest means as well.

Currently, the new Verito launched recently is available in petrol and diesel engine options. The Verito Electric launch will no doubt make the car too lucrative to those who wish a car to run at ultra low cost per kilometer. Meanwhile, reports frequently come that Tata Motors is also testing the Tata Indica Electric and Tata Nano Electric cars in India as the car maker too has realized the potential this segment has. Notably, the Electric car segment is still open to all and there is no viable offering at this time. Only the Reva NXR is expected to set in some action in the segment but that too will be restricted to some numbers as the overall sentiment about electric cars in India has been low.
