Mahindra XUV 500 becomes the first diesel SUV to win the Extreme category in India

Mahindra XUV 500 that has bagged overwhelming launch time bookings and unprecedented 25K + bookings in the second phase has proved itself right at the Dakshin Dare 2012 Rally held recently. Sweeping the top two positions in the Ultimate (Extreme) category, the Mahindra XUV 500 triumphed as the first diesel SUV to win this title. Mahindra Scorpio also bagged the top two positions in the Endurance category of the five day rally held in Bangalore recently. Taking the adventure to the highest limit Mahindra Thar stood first in the Corporate category.

Team Mahindra Adventure that participated in the rally attributes its success to the true SUV spirit of the XUV 500 and Scorpio. National champion Gaurav Gill (co-driver Musa Sheriff) and Lohitt  Urs (co-driver Chipong Chiwan) were drivers who zoomed the XUV 500 to success in the Ultimate (Extreme) category while Sanjay Takale (co-driver Musthafa) and Karthick Maurthi (co-driver Sankar Anand) were the one’s who triumphed Mahindra Scorpio to bag the first two positions in the Endurance category. Whereas K.S. Venkatesh (co-driver Chandra Sekaran) took Mahindra Thar to the first position in the Corporate category.

Overwhelmed with the clean sweep by Mahindra SUVs, Mr. Vivek Nayer, Sr. Vice-President, Marketing, Automotive Division, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd has reportedly attributed the success to the true SUV spirit of Mahindra vehicles. Notably, it is a history that Mahindra SUVs have won securing the top positions in the three valued categories of the Southern India rally.

Over 100 four wheelers and 220 participants took part in the five day rally that flagged off on April 9. It covered a total distance of over 2000 kms spread across Karnataka, Kerala and Tamilnadu. There were 21 special stages. Last year Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara won the rally. Maruti SUV Gypsy was also there among the 100 four wheelers that took part in the rally.
