Mahindra XUV 500 to be launched in South Africa today
Automobile company Mahindra & Mahindra is aiming at improving foreign sales, and in the process it will launch its new SUV XUV500, which was launched in India two days ago, in South Africa, today. Mahindra & Mahindra's Chief Executive for International Operations (Automative and Farm), Pravin Shah, said that the company would launch Mahindra XUV 500 in Johannesburg, South Africa, and it plans to launch it globally some time in the next few months. The company has planned of launching it in SAARC countries, Australia and South America. According to Pravin Shah, the SUV would exported to South Africa, from India. Mahindra XUV500, in India, is priced in the range of Rs. 10.80- Rs. 12.88 Lacs. However, the SUV's price in South Africa is not yet disclosed.
The company has already started shipping XUV 500 and some autoparts to Johannesburg. The company's employees in South Africa would be trained for marketing and maintenance of the Mahindra XUV500. The company has manufacturing units in countries Brazil and Egypt, where it would start production of XUV 500 in the future. In India, the company has set a target of producing 2,000 units of XUV500, per month. However, the company would up the production level as the demand rises. The SUV would be manufactured at Mahindra's Chakan plant, in Pune.
Mahindra's exports are limited at 2,500 units per month, which are expected to increase with the launch of XUV 500. Mahindra & Mahindra would make some modifications to the SUV for the foreign countries. However, this would depend on the buyer preferences in the different countries.
