Mahindra Xylo 4X4 launch scheduled in second half of 2012

Mahindra Xylo, a popular Multi Utility Vehicle (MUV) in the Indian market which was recently launched in a new generation version, will soon be available in a 4 wheel drive (4X4) version in the Indian market. Recently, the Mahindra Xylo 4X4 was spotted testing at the Mumbai-Pune expressway, followed by publishing of spy pictures on a number of auto blogs and portals. During this testing session, the much talked about Mahindra Mini Xylo was accompanying the Xylo 4X4, however, was covered fully in camouflaging. Interestingly, the test mule Xylo 4X4 was a previous generation Xylo 2011 model. The price tag of Mahindra Xylo 4X4 will be slightly higher as compared to its existing 2X4 version, with an expected price tag of Rs 13 lakh.

The country’s largest utility vehicle maker Mahindra & Mahindra, which is currently reported to be struggling with the shortage of 4-wheel drive kits, is expected to roll-out Mahindra Xylo 4X4 in the Indian market in the second half of the year; most likely to take place before the launch of Xylo Mini during upcoming Diwali season.

Codenamed as X-177, the Mahindra Xylo 4X4 will be carrying a completely different set of wheels. The new all wheel drive version will come powered by the same 2.2-litre mHawk engine of Xylo, which is capable of generation a peak power of 120 BHP at 4000 RPM with a peak torque of 180 Nm at 1800 rpm. The Xylo 4X4 will be offered in only E9 variant of the vehicle, as most of the buyers of Xylo opt for 2X4 version of the car. Moreover, the fuel economy of the Xylo 4X4 will be slightly lesser as compared to the existing version, as the 4-wheel drive system will enhance the overall weight of the vehicle, substantially.
