Mahindra’s Igatpuri plant strike results in a production loss of 3000 cars
The sales are low, the situation is grim and if in such as situation if there is a strike at the production plant, nothing can be called worse than this. Though all other things are well with Mahindra. Its cars such as the Mahindra XUV 500, Mahindra Scorpio are gaining huge volumes while the newly launched Mahindra e2O small car is starting to breed some excitement. Meanwhile, the workers at Igatpuri plant have declared a tool down for the fourth day demanding the reinstatement of their leader Sunil Yadav. As per the reports, a production loss of over 3000 cars is already there as the plant produces over 1100 engines for XUV 500, Bolero, Xylo and two of the commercial vehicles by Mahindra.
It is believed that the situation could worsen as despite of repeated attempts there is no resolve of the problem. It is said that the continuing on the fourth day, the production loss has crossed to over 3k cars and this is really dampening as the Navratra season is on and this is the time when there is most of the car buying in this season. As per the information over 1500 workers who are on contract of Mahindra declared a tool down soon after the union decided it against the suspension of their leader. It is said that the political party Shiv Sena has a major say in the tool down. As per the sources information, there was a fight between Yadav and some workers and following this the Mahindra management had suspended Yadav.
Meanwhile, the situation is under control at the plant and no incidents of violence was reported. The management is in constant dialogue with the union leaders and it is believed that the strike will be over by tomorrow while experts fear of a Nasik like situation at the plant.
