Maruti Dzire, Estilo, SX4 tops 2012 J.D. Power Survey
The famous customer satisfaction research firm J.D. Power Asia Pacific is back with its study for 2012. As per the findings for India Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout (APEAL) it says that at present the interiors of new-vehicle are acting as a decisive factor for consumer satisfaction. The vehicles like Maruti Swift Dzire sedan, Maruti SX4 sedan and mini hatch Maruti Estilo scored highest points in their respective segments, while Toyota Innova and Toyota Fortuner too went on scoring maximum points on a scale 1,000 point. Also making a noteworthy impact to the report is Chevrolet Spark, Honda Jazz and Nissan Sunny sedan.
This study is an owner-reported evaluation focusing on the satisfaction aspects that includes features, inside-out design, dimensions and on road performance of new vehicle for a period of two months from the date of purchase. The research measures gratification of customers across 10 categories that comprise of interiors, exteriors, entertainment, appearance, storage space, drivability, safety, HVAC, seating comfort and mileage.
The Maruti Estilo and Chevy Spark rank highest in the small car segment with 837 points each, ending up in a tie. The hot seller Maruti Swift Dzire triumphs in entry level mid size with 841 points making it successively for 5th year. Again a tie is registered with Nissan Sunny and Maruti SX4 with 853 points each in the premium mid size saloon category. Premium hatch from Japanese auto major Honda Jazz scores 866 points, while in the UV segment Toyota Innova and Toyota Fortuner come good with 872 points and 877 points respectively.
As per the data, in last 4 years the ‘vehicle interior’ factor has played a major role in make-or-break impression of the end user. And this has been observed primarily in the two rapidly booming segments namely small cars and utility vehicle. After interiors, it’s the appearance, safety and fuel efficiency that follows next and continues to be the foremost driving factor amid new-vehicle buyers in the country. The report concludes stating that overall the automobiles have bettered across all 10 categories on the points table; however huge improvement is witnessed in vehicle interior and fuel economy.
