Maruti Ertiga: Increase in production due to high demand!

Maruti India launched its much awaited MPV, Maruti Ertiga this year and since the time of its launch, the car has been in great demand. Ertiga is the first diesel MPV from Maruti, which features 1.3Litre of MultiJet diesel engine borrowed from Fiat. However, the MPV is also available with a petrol engine option featuring 1.4L K-Series petrol engine. The high demand of the diesel variant of Ertiga has made the carmaker to take the production of the car higher by 40%. Right now, the car maker churns out 5000 units of Ertiga per month, and this is planned to go up to 7000 units a month.

But sadly, this is a bit tough for the firm as the diesel engine that are produced by Suzuki PowerTrain takes place at the Manesar plant is currently locked out. The tragic event that took place at the Manesar Plant has affected the production of Maruti’s best selling models that also include in Maruti Swift Dzire and Maruti Swift Hatchback apart from Ertiga. This has cut down the production of diesel engine by one third. Therefore, now the company is planning to back-up the production at the Suzuki PowerTrain and supply the extra diesel engines to Ertiga to boost up the sales.

Right now, Maruti Ertiga has a major waiting period of three to four months. Once the production capacity is increased, this will certainly go down substantially. If the condition of the MPV segment of Indian car market is taken into account, Maruti Ertiga is dominating the segment and has left behind the cash cow of Toyota, Innova. Hopefully, things work out for the firm and Maruti Suzuki India is able to take the production capacity higher in spite of the trouble its facing because of the lockout at the Manesar Plant.
