Maruti seems to be plugging all the loopholes in order to set off its journey to become the top diesel car maker in India as well. The recent launch and success of Maruti Ertiga is the first victory and now the merger of Suzuki Powertrain India with itself will embark it in a more robust way. After having reeled under immense crisis last year due to the labor unrest and the production outages, Maruti seems to have starting settings right so that it remain the largest car maker in India.

We all know that due to the short supply of diesel engine, the production of Maruti Swift and Maruti Swift Dzire was hampered. Consequently Maruti devised a way out and entered into alliance with Fiat India for the supply of diesel engines and now that it has merged the diesel engine unit with itself, it is assumed that it will be able to produce more engines. This will help Maruti cut the waiting period for the delivery of its cars such as Ertiga, Swift and Swift Dzire. Though the present situation is grim and Maruti’s best selling petrol car Maruti Alto is short of customers, the car maker has realized that the car market in India will be bullish on diesel cars and bearish on petrol cars. Thus it seems that the car maker will be cutting supply of petrol cars and will divert its resources to the production of diesel cars in India.

Apart from the craze for diesel cars factor, Maruti will be exploring the still unexplored segments. One it has already set afire with the Ertiga and it will be receiving booming booking with the launch of Maruti XA Alpha next year. Besides, it must be testing Maruti Alto Diesel and Maruti Cervo Diesel besides the diesel models of other cars which are currently available in petrol only models.
