If all goes well, Maruti will be launching a small car that will replace Maruti 800 as soon as the Diwali festive season sets in. However, as per the recent updates through various report publications, the new Maruti small car will be priced above the Maruti 800 but below the bestselling car Maruti Alto. Another striking fact is that the small car will have a diesel variant as well. And, reports further suggest that Maruti is in the process of finalizing the price of the diesel variant. As there are initial reports, nothing official about the small car by Maruti has come out.

Notably, it seems that it was quite a compulsion for Maruti to pitch in a Maruti 800 replacement priced below Maruti Alto as other offerings such as Hyundai Eon and Tata Nano are eating some market share. Launching a small car will revive the entry level position of Maruti cars as it was weakened after Maruti 800 was discontinued. The most striking thing about the new Maruti car will be the availability in diesel. Several guesses have been made regarding the name of the new car by Maruti and one of the probable name that is Maruti Cervo. The small car Cervo by Maruti has been in reports for some years now and if it happens to be the city car, the reports will prove right. However, initial reflections suggest that it will be named differently.

The mini car by Maruti will be sweeping the small car segment as the Maruti Ertiga is doing to the MPV segment and the same way, Maruti 800 did it for almost three decades. Once launched, this car will be playing a serious spoilsport for Chevrolet Beat Diesel, Honda Brio, Hyundai Eon and Tata Nano that has recently picked up pace in sales with over 10k sales monthly.
