Maruti Swift Dzire: The top gainer car of Maruti

The Budget blues seem to have little effect on car sales in India in March. Almost every car maker has posted exceptionally well sales in March. Continuing this trend India’s largest car maker Maruti has also registered an increase of 3.3 percent in overall car sales compared to March 2011. The winner, of course is the super compact car new Maruti Swift Dzire that sold 16451 units in March along with its senior the Maruti Swift Dzire 2011. Whereas the mass mini segment that includes Maruti Alto K10, Maruti Wagon R, and the iconic Maruti 800 slowed down a little and was down by 10 percent.

In Indian car industry, Maruti car sale is considered as the health sign of the industry. If it is down presume there is something wrong and if it is up consider that everything is alright. Significantly, there were several factors that forced auto analysts to predict that March sales will be average as the exceptional pre-budget rally will be averaged by the slide in demand post budget. However, things really came out to be different than expected and almost all the car companies have shown their results in green. In all, Maruti sold 1.2 lakh unit cars in March 2012 out of which 1.12 lakh cars were sold domestically. Amidst this positive trend, Maruti car exports also rose by over 14 percent to 13288 compared to the same period last year.

The highest gainer for Maruti is the super compact segment that has a new launched car new Maruti Swift Dzire and the Dzire 2011 model. The second highest contributor to positive sales was the compact segment that constitutes Maruti Swift, Maruti Zen Estilo and Maruti Ritz. The compact segment registered an increase of 23.6 percent sales over the same period last year. Most significantly, the Utility segment that includes Maruti Gypsy, Maruti Grand Vitara recorded 146 percent year on year growth with 1530 unit sales. Maruti Kizashi and Maruti SX4 sales received a jolt in March and have almost halved compared to March 2011. And after the launch of the Maruti Ertiga MPV, the company will be looking for new highest in sales performance of Maruti cars in India.
