In India the automotive sector is in a deep depression on how to confront the existing consequences of diminishing automobile sales; especially the petrol variants, thanks to towering petrol prices. The best available solution that clicks in the mind of automaker is to launch a diesel variant of its car models.

Following the same remedy to cure the sales figures and to offer range in its series of vehicles, the largest carmaker in the nation Maruti Suzuki will offer its hatchback Wagon R with diesel powered power-train.

The initiative is in the right direction by the company, as the overall performance of auto market in India banks up on the sales of hatchback and small cars; which are 90 percent petrol run and petrol is at its all time high, resulting in poor show of the sector.

Recently Chevrolet Beat diesel was launched and it evidently declared that in coming years; which will see more rise in petrol costs, a company cannot stick to petrol variants, even in the smaller segment.

If launched, it is expected that the diesel powered engine will be a 1.0L 3-cylinder diesel engine, with capability to provide maximum power output of 58 PS along with maximum torque of 150 Nm. The projected fuel economy is 25 km per litre approximately.

After its launch the same diesel engine can be ushered into other Maruti Suzuki vehicles; which will formulate its diesel car market share healthy in coming years. The company offers Swift, Dzire, SX4, and Alto in its Indian portfolio.
