Maruti’s Manesar plant closed down after 1 person was killed and 40 injured

The Manesar plant has almost become a worrywart for Maruti resulting in loss of production and delay in the launch of new Maruti Swift and Maruti Swift Dzire. In a clash between the workers and managerial staff yesterday, one person was killed and 40 others were injured yesterday. Following the incident, the plant has been closed down today. As per sources information, an FIR has been lodged against over 60 plant workers and some have been detained by the Manesar police. Meanwhile, the workers have called an indefinite strike until the government intervenes in the matter and unless the culprits were arrested.

Notably, the plant has been full of contentions and disputes since beginning and there were a series of strikes last year following which Maruti had to face severe production loss resulting in the overall affect on global sales. The fresh incident is considered to be serious enough to fire much resentment among the workers who went on indefinite strike today and are demanding early conviction of the culprits. As per the sources information, a tussle ensued between a worker and the supervisor late evening on Wednesday. As per the eyewitnesses report to the police, the fight started after the supervisor made some remarks on the worker and in a fit of anger , the worker beat up the supervisor. Following the incident, other workers joined in and had molested other managerial staff who intervened.

In the statement issued by Maruti, it is said that the workers has also ransacked property inside the premises. Workers also damaged cars and have set afire some property at the plant. After the incident, around 3000 workers and staff were rushed out of the plant. The police have framed charges against 60 plant workers and have begun investigating the case. Meanwhile, there is a heavy deployment of police at the Manesar plant where situation is still tense after this grave incident.
