Mercedes Benz A Class to be powered by Renault’s 1.5 L diesel engine

Mercedes Benz India is eyeing to rival BMW’s Mini range of cars with its Mercedes Benz A Class luxury small car. Mercedes’ new small car offers state-of-the-art performance, decent fuel economy and emission levels. The car will be powered with an exclusively developed turbo petrol engine and diesel engine that will also come with the up to date start-stop feature. Equipped with diesel engine, the A180 CDI will house a Renault-Nissan manufactured 1.5 litre powertrain which is powering Renault’s premium sedan Fluence E4.

The diesel mill is capable of generating maximum power of 108PS which may not be as impressive for a Mercedes car, though the torque numbers will surely change your opinion. A whopping 260NM of torque is produced by the 1.5 litre diesel engine to render a suitable pace to the car. As far as the CO2 emission figures are concerned, the engine will emit 98g/kg of CO2- which apparently is the lowest of all Mercedes cars.

Apart from this there are other engine options which Mercedes can think of, like the 1.8 litre powertrain that pips out 134PS of maximum power and 300Nm of torque. Also a 2.1 litre A220 CDI engine with 168PS of power and 350Nm of torque could also be zeroed in for the A Class. This was about the diesel variant, while the petrol variant will be available with three engine options which include the 1.6 litre turbo charged engine featured in the A180. A200 could also come with a tweaked 1.6 litre turbo charged engine delivering high performance. Last of the three is the 2.0 litre turbo charged engine equipped in the A250, this engine can pump out 210PS of power and 350Nm of torque.
