The 6th generation of BMW 3 Series finally bows in at a starting price of Rs 28.9 lakh for the basic 320d variant while the top end 328 Sport Line version is tagged at Rs 37.9 lakh. Now the new 3 series comes with total 5 variants out of which four are petrol trims and 1 is diesel powered. Indian cricketing star Sachin Tendulkar launched the car along with Dr Andreas Schaaf, President, BMW India. The petrol as well as diesel engine are mated to a 8 speed automatic transmission with closely-spaced gear ratios to optimize the best revving range of the machines at most of the speed levels. The launch was held in the capital city of Delhi and witnessed presence of various auto journalists trying to cover the launch news first. Promoted as Ultimate3 this new gen BMW 3 Series is a smashing sedan with oomph of luxury in every inch. New 3 Series offers more space specifically enhanced headroom and legroom. The styling is sharper and presence of new engines makes the luxury saloon mightier. Upgraded version of 3 Series now comes with refined suspension tuning; innovative features that up the luxury quotient of the saloon.

The sedan has been offered in petrol as well as diesel versions, the diesel version, BMW 320d Series is armed with a 4 pot twin turbocharged diesel motor that churns out 184 Bhp of power at 4000 RPM along with 380 Nm of torque at 1750 RPM. The engine can propel 3 Series from zilch to 100 kmph in just 7.6 seconds and touch a top speed of 235 kmph. New gen BMW 3 Series diesel trim can deliver a fuel economy of 18.88 kmpl which is extremely impressive.

The petrol version, BMW 3 Series 328i on the other hand is packed with a TwinPower 4 cylinder petrol mill that can engender a staggering power of 245 Bhp at 5000 RPM. Along with it the petrol engine also generates a high torque figure of 350 Nm at 1250 RPM. The twin-scroll turbochargers, Double-VANOS high precision direct injection technologies enables the saloon to sprint from 0 to 100 kmph in a meagre 6.1 seconds. The 328i variant can reach a top speed of 250 kmph and return a decent fuel efficiency of 14.79 kmpl.

It has a ground clearance of 140 mm which will make it suitable to run on most of the Indian roads.
