New Chevrolet Spark fails to achieve 40 mpg mark
Chevrolet’s mini hatchback Spark is up for a makeover, falling sales due to numerous hikes in petrol prices have been a major reason behind this makeover. The five door hatch is a perfect vehicle for an average middle class Indian family which fits well in their budget. The 1.2 litre engine will power the facelift version of the small car. Small cars with low capacity engine usually do not return good mileage in comparison to other cars and Spark too is facing the same issue.

Chevrolet Spark has not been able to attain 40 mpg mark in the official EPA numbers which were released recently. The probable reason which has been cited by the auto aficionados suggest that the 1.2 litre four banger engine can attain 38 mpg on highway and 32 mpg in city conditions. The question that arises here is, will Spark have to suffer due to the inability to achieve the 40 mpg mark? This even gets worse with a four-speed automatic gearbox which manages to deliver only 28 mpg in city conditions and 37 mpg on highways. However, the bigger sonic with 1.4 litre engine can deliver 40 mpg on highway.
