Honda has launched the new Honda City in Indonesian capital Jakarta on Wednesday and has expressed that it hopes to increase its presence in the mini sedan market in there to 40 percent. The Japanese car maker is in joint venture with Prospect Motor and sells Honda Accord premium sedan, Honda Civic, Honda CR-V SUV, Honda Freed MPV, Honda Jazz small car and Honda Odyssey minivan. Notably, Indonesia is also one of the largest importer of Maruti cars and recently Maruti has begun exporting Maruti Ertiga to this nation where mini trucks and sedans rule the segment.

Initially, Honda believes that it would be able to sell 2400 units of new City in Indonesia and later on the numbers are expected to increase. HPM director Tomoki Uchida has also reportedly told the media that he has high hopes with the new City and the car is a hit in India and other countries such as Thailand and a similar response he expects from Jakarta as well. And since this is a new version people will be all the more interested in the new City, said sources. The new City is powered by 1.5 L i-VTEC petrol engine mated to a 5 speed automatic gearbox and the combination promises high level of fuel efficiency as well as power delivery.

The Toyota Vios rival new City also features a paddle shift that is a feature of sports cars and this features is expected to make it distinct from other sedans in there thus fetching much response. Others cars including the Honda Freed and Honda Odyssey are also some of the best selling cars in the country besides the Honda Jazz small car. Since its launch way back in 1996, the City sedan has been the best selling sedan in Indonesia.
