New Hyundai Eon to compete with Maruti Alto
Country's second largest automobile company, Hyundai is now going to give Maruti Suzuki a stiff competition by launching its entry level small car Eon. It will be placed in competition to Maruti Suzuki Alto, which has been the highest selling car of the country.
Hyundai Eon, code-named 'HA 800', will compete with the Maruti Alto in the A segment or entry level small car market. According to sources, the South Korean giant Hyundai is expected to launch Eon by mid of October.
Hyundai Eon is exclusively designed for Indian market. It is just under 3.5 meters in length, and it is based on Tall-boy design. Though, it is designed in such a way that there is ample space inside the cabin.
It is powered by a 800cc engine which generates maximum of 56 PS power. It has the same gearbox as Hyundai's another hatchback Santro. It went through a test drive recently at Hyundai's R&D ventre at Namyang.
According to Hyundai's officials, Hyundai Santro will be continued in the market, even when Hyundai Eon will be launched. But the prices of both the cars will be kept close, in-order to promote in-house competition.
The new Hyundai Eon sports fluidic design, as Hyundai's other cars like i10 Kappa and new Verna Fluidic. Eon will be targeted mainly as youth's car. Hyundai plans to end its dropping sales with the help of this new small and economical car, that suits Indian conditions quite perfectly.
