The Maruti SX4 could soon undergo a serious facelift. Being based on a platform that is versatile enough to accommodate hatchback, crossover or a sedan body style, the SX4 has been the sole offering in the entry level premium sedan segment in India. Its price starts at Rs 7.11 lakh and is available in petrol, diesel and CNG fuel options. The car has been one of the major competitors of Tata Indigo XL, Ford Fiesta Classic and Mahindra Verito. Apart from this, the car is considered to be a rival of Tata Manza in terms of space and occupancy.

As per the reports, the platform has been a joint genesis of Fiat and Suzuki. While Fiat has developed Fiat Sedici crossover based on the platform, Suzuki has developed the SX4 sedan. The new SX4 has been spotted in Spain and as per the buzz, the new car by Suzuki will have an array of minute changes to the exteriors, interiors besides comfort and safety features. In India the sales of the SX4 sedan were never too much promising compared to other Maruti cars but the car has been successful in other parts of the globe. The test mule that was spotted in Spain had high amount of camouflage on it and it seems that the mid career facelift is being developed secretly.

Furthermore, it is believed that the success of the SX4 sedan in India will decide whether the facelift will be arriving in India or not. However auto industry experts believe that Maruti will be launching the improved version as soon as it is launched elsewhere so as to boost sales in India. A close look at the spy pictures available on the internet reveals that the test car thus spotted is the sportback version of the SX4 and it is expected that that same design lines will be inherited by the sedan and hatchback based on the SX4 platform. A further look at the test mule pictures of SX4 suggest a close resemblance with the Maruti Kizashi front and overall design.
