New Tata Aria launched at Rs 9.95 lakh

Tata Aria, the mid-size premium crossover SUV descending from the Indian based multinational automaker’s stable, has added to its versatile range a trimmed down version at a price of Rs. 9.95 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi). Owing to the diving sales of the Tata Aria, the car maker has deliberately designed this new variant ‘Tata Aria Pure LX 4X2’ for the Indian auto market at a highly competitive price to revive the sales volume, especially this festive season.

At this price, Tata Aria is surely being pitched against the segment leaders, Toyota Innova and Mahindra XUV 500. In this price range, this new variant is also targeted towards the mass market in the fleet segment, where Toyota Innova has cemented its niche. In the last month, Tata Motors managed to sell a discouraging sales figure of around 25 units of the model in India.

Tata Motors has launched this stripped down variant of the SUV by eliminating various high end attributes such as the dual-mass flywheel, fog lamps, rear wiper and defogger, airbags, ABS, EBD, fabric/ leather seats, roof storage bins, follow me home function on the head lamps, 2 DIN music system, USB along with others. All these deletions have certainly resulted in a significant cost reduction and economy.

However, with single mass flywheel, synthetic leather seats, electrically adjustable ORVMs, dual AC with pillar mounted AC louvers, body coloured bumpers, glove box chiller and lamp and keyless entry and immobilizer, the Tata Aria is being considered to be a high value for money. Tata Aria is loaded with a powerful 2.2 litre DiCOR turbo diesel engine churning out a top power of 140 bhp and a top torque of 320 Nm. The engine works in tandem with a five speed manual gearbox while the automatic transmission variant is anticipated to be introduced soon by Tata Motors. Tata Aria shares the same engine as the Tata Safari, which makes the NVH (noise, vibration and harshness) levels raise up to some extent.
