Nissan-Ashok Leyland-Renault alliance ULC in the making, launch in two years
If not Bajaj, it could be Ashok Leyland that could produce an ultra low cost car in alliance with Renault-Nissan. This is the latest update regarding the ultra low cost that India craves for since long. The India car buyer has been deceived by Tata Nano following its looks and not exactly under Rs 1 lakh car. Now that the Ashok Leyland-Renault-Nissan alliance is actively working on the ULC, it would not be an exaggeration to expect a small car in the price range of Rs 2 lakh to Rs 3 lakh. This is sure that if the partnership happens to launch a good looking car like Maruti 800 in this price bracket, there will be a revolution.

Though unchristened yet, the ULC will be ready by 2014 and will be a matter of much anticipation till then. Notably, it is not the first time that the trio is working together and the Dost LCV and the Stile MPV are flaring examples of the successful products by them. Jumping into a partnership with Bajaj was though unfruitful and what Bajaj came up with was Bajaj RE60 which is a so called small car but in reality is a passenger vehicle or four seater auto rickshaw.

For the Franco-Japanese joint venture the small car segment happens to be the most fruitful of all and that is why both have their quite robust offerings in this segment. Though, both the Renault Pulse and Nissan Micra are not entry-level hatchbacks in India. Thus arriving at an ULC product with the fresh JV will help cash on the immense potential in this segment. However, alike Bajaj, Ashok Leyland too wants the partnership to come up with a commercial segment vehicle rather than a personal vehicle. However, sensing this, Nissan has step up its efforts to revive Datsun brand and has all geared up to launch a Tata Nano rival car in India soon.
