Petrol price cut by Rs 2.46 per litre

Petrol price cut by Rs 2.46 per litre By Shilpa Chopra Friday, June 29, 2012 12:00 PM

Is the present Rs 2.46 per litre cut in the price of petrol bring back the same sheen to the Maruti Alto, Hyundai Eon or Chevrolet Spark sales in India? Is the average Indian small car buyer has under stood that petrol prices will be on the uptrend always and these are just slight breathers? What will be the impact of the petrol price cut today? These and many other questions are boggling the minds of auto enthusiast who are perplexed with the current situation of the auto industry in India.

Though the price of petrol have been cut marginally second time this month, the earlier being on June 3 when over Rs 2.02 were reduced on petrol prices, it is not expected to go some good to the car industry as the general sentiment has gone haywire. The general masses have understood that petrol prices can anytime shoot up to Rs 7.50 or more as it did previously and there is no worth in buying a petrol car. Thus auto industry experts believe that though it will slight bring back some sales of petrol cars and entry level petrol cars such as Alto, Eon, Spark, Honda Brio, and other petrol small cars will improve slightly. However, the trend will continue to be towards diesel cars in India.

Besides other car makers, the present petrol price slash will be most beneficial for Maruti India and note worthily for Honda that has been struggling with the sales of its petrol only line up including Honda City, Honda Accord, Honda Jazz, and Honda CR-V. It is believed that a further decrease in price of around Rs 3 per litre will do some good and then the petrol price will be at its previous state. Also not to forget the launch of compact SUV Renault Duster next month i.e. July, as the company is expected to keep the prices low for the entry level petrol version. This cut off will surely help Renault attract more customers. Thus overall the present breather in petrol prices will be a slight one and a further decrease will be doing some good to the industry.

Slashing down petrol prices will definitely effect the sales of petrol prices. The buyers will again move forward to petrol cars.
