Premier Rio 1.3 L multijet diesel model launch soon

The expected to be a Renault Duster rival – Premier Rio is soon to be launched in its 1.3 L muiltijet powered diesel engine avatar this month. Notably, the Rio SUV has not seen too much success in India even after it is offered at a price akin to a premium hatchback. Though it is always on the radar of every new SUV launched in India. Obviously, it is a rival for the namesake only as it is only another SUV. However, auto industry experts believe that the new engine that will be sourced from Fiat can do miracles for the SUV and if not exceptional, the SUV can bag some decent bookings.

The Premier Rio price in India starts at incredibly low Rs 4.90 lakh for the petrol car and the Rio Diesel BSIII price starts at Rs 5.61 lakh which is much lower than any of the SUVs in India except Mahindra Thar that starts at Rs 4.65 lakh. Meanwhile, a group of other auto critics say that the Rio diesel 1.3 L multijet will not do any damage to Duster as the brand is weak and even after so many years of its launch, the SUV is not able to put up some decent numbers on the sales chart ever.

As per the reports, the Rio diesel BSIV will be powered by a Fiat sourced 1.3 litre multijet engine which will produce 75 PS power. The same engine is doing its duty under the hood of Maruti Swift and Tata Indica Vista as well. Known for its frugal nature and long life, the new engine is expected to give a kick start to the Rio and it is expected that sales will receive a sudden jump with the launch of this BS IV compliant Rio. Premier Auto India will be buying the diesel engines from Fiat as per the three contracts with the latter.

I enquired this car at Ooty and it was not available at there. Finally I approached to one of my friend who purchased this car four months ago from Delhi showroom.

I don't think that after launch 1.3 L multijet diesel variants there will have more effect on sale of Premier Rio.
