Premier Rio diesel BSIV launch soon, will it really do some good to this Chinese SUV!

Premier Rio, the existing sole compact SUV in India is ready to be launched with the 1.3 L multijet diesel powered BSIV engine soon. The segment’s first offering is soon to be joined by Renault Duster, and the most awaited SUV Ford Ecosport besides the SUV offering Maruti XA Alpha. The Rio SUV is presently available in petrol and diesel options but there is no BSIV version available in diesel. The launch of Rio 1.3 L variant is believed to step up the prospects of the car in the major cities of India.

There were unconfirmed reports earlier that Fiat and Premier are in close talks regarding the supply of the said 1.3 L multijet engine that also powers other cars such as recently launched Maruti Ertiga MPV, Maruti Swift hatchback, and Fiat’s own car Fiat Punto and its ally’s car Tata Indica Vista and others. It is worth mentioning that the Fiat supplies this diesel engine to as many as six brands now including Premier. The 1.3 L multijet diesel engine is Fiat’s best selling engine and by powering the Rio SUV it will add value to the car and hopefully the sales of the compact SUV should be on the rise as this is an engine to depend on.

Initially it is expected that the Rio diesel powered by this engine will be launched in August and will be available in 64 bhp and 75 bhp power variants. In diesel, the engine will be delivering a mileage of around 17-18 kmpl. Due to the non availability of BSIV diesel variant, the sales volume of Rio remained under 2000 units in the financial year that ended in March this year. Premier hopes to take the sales volume to 8000 this fiscal and triple it in the next three years. In the meantime the Rio BSIV is launched; Premier will also be expanding its dealership network to 100 and will step up the publicity of this China born automobile.

The interiors are very ugly, As i suppose an SUV must have. No feeling of a comfortable car or anything like that. Overall average looks.
