Fiat multijet engine that unites five car brands is soon to add one more brand to its list. This time it will be Premier Auto. It will be used in the Premier Rio SUV that still has no BSIV offering in diesel. The 75 bhp multijet engine from Fiat will give an edge to the first compact SUV in India and power it to stand in competition with the upcoming SUVs Ford Ecosport, Renault Duster and Maruti XA Alpha. Notably, Premier has already up graded the Rio petrol to BSIV lately.

With the new Fiat sourced diesel heart in place, Premier will be able to sell Rio diesel in metro cities that are the biggest markets for compact SUVs. As per media reports, the two are in close dialogue over the supply of 1.3 L multijet engine and in all probability the deal will be finalized soon, said sources. Information as to what will be the power output capacity that Premier will go for Rio is quite uncertain as of now. Reports suggest that it could be either 75 bhp or a 90 bhp engine that Premier could also Fiat to source.  

Notably, Fiat currently supplies the 1.3 L multijet diesel engines primarily to Maruti and Tata. Where Maruti uses these in Swift hatchback and new Swift Dzire compact sedan. Apart from this it will also be used in the soon to launch Maruti Ertiga. Besides Tata uses this engine in Tata Indica, Indica Vista and other cars. Use of the Fiat Multijet engine will certainly improve the prospects of the Premier Rio SUV as this is a tried and tested engine and its performance has brought good sales to many cars of several brands. Fiat uses these engines in various power ratios in Fiat Linea sedan and Fiat Punto hatchback.
