Production of BMWi8 with laser light started by BMW
After unveiling its super sedan BMWi8 in Indian Auto Expo 2014 German luxurious car maker BMW has started the production of BMWi8 car with laser headlights. It will be the first car by any car manufacturer which will be equipped with laser headlights on some production car. The super car was showcased during the Frankfurt Motors Show held last year. Prior to this another German car maker Audi had offered laser head lamps in its hybrid Sport Quattro displayed at CES held in January this year.
The super car BMWi8 will be equipped with 1.5 litre twin turbocharged three cylinder petrol engine which along with electric motor generates the power of 362 bhp and torque of 570 Nm. It will be coated with six speed automatic gearbox, the power to front wheels will forwarded from petrol engine while electric motor will forward the power to rear wheels. The car accelerates the speed from standstill to 100 kmph in span of 4.5 seconds and is capable of capturing the top speed of 250 kmph.
The laser lights will be offered as an angel eye headlamp which will be optional, however the actual car will be placed with full LED head lights. The laser headlight is developed from three blue lasers which are later combined with other elements while assembling at one place. The power of this light is 70 percent brighter than normal LEDs. It is expected that i8 will be launched with price tag US$ 1,35,000 (Rs. 83.8 lakh).
